Biography: Specializing in appellate law, Ms. Garbarino practices before the Michigan Court of Appeals, the Michigan Supreme Court, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Garbarino’s practice includes all facets of appellate law on behalf of the firm’s clients, as well as appellate referrals from other firms. Ms. Garbarino has been AV Peer Review rated since 1999 by Lexis Nexis/Martindale Hubbell. In addition, she has been named a Michigan Super Lawyer since 2008. Only five percent of the attorneys in Michigan are selected as Super Lawyers. In 2005, Ms. Garbarino received the Thomas M. Cooley Law Review Distinguished Brief Award for her Michigan Supreme Court brief in Barnes v Providence Hospital.
Ms. Garbarino is an active member of various appellate groups and committees. She served as Chair of the Appellate Practice Section in 2006 - 2007 and was the Section’s Treasurer in 2001 - 2003 and 2004 - 2005. She also served, by appointment, on the Michigan State Bar Standing Committee for Appellate Court Administration, acting as the Chair of the Committee in 1998 and 1999. A member of the Michigan Court of Appeals’ Internal Operating Procedures Task Force, Ms. Garbarino assisted in the drafting of the Court’s first Internal Operating Procedures in 1997. She also served, at the request of the Michigan Court of Appeals, as a Moderator in the Court’s Pre-Argument Settlement Conference Pilot Program. She has also been active in the Michigan Appellate Bench Bar Conferences, serving on the Steering Committees and as a Moderator for the 1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007 and 2010 Conferences.
